NID is now accepting applications
Need in Deed is pleased to announce the availability of one-year scholarships for Philadelphia area elementary and middle charter schools to receive year-long professional development for the 2010-2011 school year. Preference will be given to schools requesting training for at least 2 teachers/classrooms.
NID empowers students to apply academic skills to addressing problems in their communities and schools. We accomplish this through training and supporting teachers as they integrate service-learning with their classroom practices. The goal is to enable young people to become capable, contributing members of society. Since NID's founding in 1987 we have encouraged students to voice their concerns about the world and to use their knowledge and abilities to respond to those concerns by making connections between classroom academics and everyday experiences.
Schools receiving this scholarship will receive:
- Year-long professional development in NID's service-learning framework, which emphasizes student voice and real world connections;
- Ongoing technical support, including project problem solving, resource identification and curriculum connections, and
- Access to NID's on-line resource library that offers grade and topic appropriate activities, books, videos, etc.
Deadline for application is Wednesday, June 9, 2010.
